Our God has given members of the Body of Christ spiritual gifts, which are vital for our spiritual well being and our walk with God. Every believer is an important member of that Body and the gifts vary from person to person. When the Almighty God gives us these gifts, He expects us to use them for His own glory. He also expects a return from us and wants us to be accountable for our gifts. The Body of Christ has two main parts, namely The Head, who is Jesus Christ, and then many believers. Our physical bodies do not have two parts, but many parts. Our legs, arms, fingers, eyes, nose, ears, etc, are all different parts of our bodies. Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12:14-15 “Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.”
Our legs do not have the same functions as our arms, our eyes work differently from our ears and our fingers have their own functions. In effect, every part of our body functions to keep our body in perfect shape. So also are the members of the Body of Christ; they are like the members of the human body. Each member has its own function and is, therefore, important, both to the Head and to the other members of The Body of Christ. The bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.” God made you different from anyone else just as He made the members of our human bodies different from each other. He made each part of us and placed it where it is, so it would serve its own purpose.
Our God has also packaged us with different spiritual gifts for the edification of the Body of Christ. “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one, there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another, miraculous powers, to another, prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another, speaking in different tongues, and to still another, the interpretation of tongues.” 1 Corinthians 12:7-10. All these spiritual gifts are the work of one and the same Spirit and God gives them to each one of us, as He determines. He wants us to use the gifts He has given us and work hand in hand with the other members of the Body of Christ. The gifts are unique to each individual and there should be no competition, as this is not of God.
