Choose To Have An Excellent Spirit- Part 1
Whatever you do in life, be determined to do it in an exceptional way. Excellence in all things is the key, as you will have very good and outstanding results always. When you put God first in everything, you have completeness and wholeness.
You become a person of integrity; honesty and sincerity will become some of your character traits. Your character is a combination of qualities that distinguishes you as a person. Your real character is not what your portray in the presence of your friends, family or people around you. It is what you do in private, when no one, but God is watching, as He is everywhere.
God is a God of excellence and He demonstrated this when He created the universe. Everything He created was excellent and He is a God of detail. The bible tells in Genesis 1:31a, “ God saw all that He had made and it was very good”. He made you and I in a fearful and wonderful way and He created everything perfectly.
Joseph, the eleventh son of Jacob, had an excellent spirit. After his brothers sold him, he was taken down to Egypt and ended up in the house of Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials. The Lord was with Joseph and he found favour in the eyes of Potiphar, who put Joseph in charge of his household. But then, Mrs Potiphar had another agenda and she tried to seduce Joseph. He decided to “leave his cloak in her hand and run out of the house”. Genesis 39:13b
Joseph chose to preserve his character because an excellent spirit was in him. He had a combination of qualities that distinguished him from other people. His moral strength, reputation and disposition were excellent. He did not allow his circumstances lead him to sin and he took a stand to do the right thing. This landed Joseph in prison but he would not have had it any other way.
God’s name was glorified in the life of Joseph because he refused to compromise his faith. He chose to have an excellent spirit and he knew all along that God was with him. He had a rough ride in life because he shared his dreams with his brothers, who became jealous of him. But God’s name was glorified at the end of it. What his brothers meant for evil, God meant it for good.
Joseph had to go from the pit to Potiphar’s house, then to prison, and God promoted him to the palace. These were the four “P”s of Joseph’s life. He became the “Prime Minister” of Egypt because he decided to be a man of excellence. He recognized the sovereignty of God in his life and he knew that He was with him always. And God used him mightily to bless his people. Praise God!
