A doubt is an uncertainty and distrust in something or someone. This also leads to a great deal of suspicion, which is a belief formed or held without a trace of sure proof. A doubt is also the absence of faith and it can make one shaky in their walk with God. It is bad enough to doubt our fellow brethren, and when we doubt God and His Word, it is even worse.

When this happens, we are telling the Almighty that HE is not able to do what He has promised us. This does not glorify God in any way. Many believers are plagued with doubts about their salvation. Even though they have repented of their sins and accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour, they still wonder if they will really go to Heaven.

The Word of God says in 1 John 5:13-14, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” We have to be absolutely confident and comforted that our salvation is secure, based on God’s keeping power and not on ours.

Once we are confident, all cause of anxiety will be removed and we will be able to enjoy our Christian journey. If you sometimes doubt your salvation, the forgiveness of your sins or God’s work in your life, look at the evidence in the bible and God’s promises to us. Then ask the Lord to give you the faith you need and trust Him more. When you doubt, don’t give up or turn away from Christ, instead turn to HIM for help.

Even as John The Baptist, the Forerunner of Jesus Christ, was in prison, he began to experience some doubts about whether Jesus was the Messiah. He had to send his disciples to ask Jesus if He was really the ONE they were waiting for, or if they should keep on looking. Jesus answered John’s doubts by pointing to HIS acts of healing the sick, the lame walking, the blind could see and all other miracles HE had performed.

Sometimes, we ask questions from time to time about our salvation and these are tests of faith that can be answered in John The Baptist’s way. We must always take our doubts to Jesus as John the Baptist did. Jesus will restore the confidence our hearts desire and we will be free to enjoy our walk with HIM. As Jesus did not abandon John to his doubts, HE will also not abandon you to your doubts either.

The bible tells us in James 1:6-7, “But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive any thing from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”

Wow! This is a very powerful scripture and we need to take heed of it seriously. When you pray in accordance to the will of God and His Word, believe that you have received. As the above scripture says, if you doubt, double-mindedness sets in and this is a very dangerous state to be in. If this is the case, there will be no progress in your walk with God. I pray that this will not be your portion in Jesus’ matchless name. AMEN.

PRAYER OF SALVATION

If you have not already committed your life to Jesus and you would like to do so now, please pray this prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I am sorry for all the things I have done wrong. Thank you for dying for me on the cross, to set me free from my sins. I ask you to come into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour, and fill me with the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord Jesus. Amen.”

Congratulations, if you have prayed this prayer. Please look for a Bible-believing church, to fellowship with the brethren. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if I can be of any assistance to you. Remain blessed and enjoy the presence of the Lord.

A doubtful mind is not completely convinced that God’s way is the best. It treats God’s Word like any human advice, retaining the option of disobedience. A doubtful mind also vacillates or fluctuates between feelings, worlds’ ideas and God’s commands. As the constant rolling of huge waves at sea are restless, so also doubts leave one as unsettled in their mind.

Double-mindedness is a common disease that leaves its victims paralysed by doubt. The cure for double-mindedness is wholehearted commitment to God’s reliable way. It is much better to be single-minded as you will really care about the things of God and have authentic character. You will be able to settle for what God says in His Word and believe HIM always.

The Word of God says in Jude 1:22, “Be merciful to those who doubt.” Those who doubt need to be shown mercy and they usually need to hear about God’s love more than God’s law. This will help them deal with their doubts and also enjoy the unconditional love God has for them.

When Apostle Peter saw Jesus walking on the lake, he asked Jesus to tell him to come HIM, walking on the lake as well. Jesus told him to come, but as he started walking on the water, he was afraid and he began to sink, because he doubted. Jesus told Peter, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31b. The Lord was able to calm Peter’s fear and help him dispel his doubt.

After the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead, He appeared to His disciples a few times. On one occasion, Thomas, one of the twelve Apostles’ was not present. The others told him that Jesus had appeared to them but Thomas doubted and would not believe. He told the others, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands, and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand in His side, I will not believe it.“ John 20:25b

A week later, Jesus appeared to them again while Thomas was present. HE said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” John 20:27b. Thomas was overwhelmed and said to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:27b

The problem with Thomas was he saw Jesus go to the cross, saw Him buried, saw the tomb and the massive rock rolled against it; then all his dreams died with Jesus. So when he heard the incredible and the thoroughly unbelievable word from the other disciples that Jesus was alive and had appeared to them, it was too much for Thomas to take in. He needed a proof before he could recommit his life.

Jesus understood Thomas’ doubts and recognized his fears, so HE decided to help him by appearing to the disciples again when Thomas was present. Jesus gave Thomas a gentle word of peace and a calming word of acceptance. Jesus met the need of this doubter in an awesome way and gave Thomas the strength to go on living for God all his days on earth.

Some of us have had doubts like Thomas and it has been so hard in those doubting moments. Jesus is at hand to help us as HE comes to us like a flood of grace and compassion. If you are in doubt at any time, Jesus will help you as He helped Thomas. He will grant you His peace and show you great love, which will help you all the way.

Child of God, be encouraged. Whenever you have any doubts, take them to Jesus and ask Him questions. He will answer you and help you during those dark moments. Do not keep your doubts to yourself, as this action does not glorify God in any way. Let Jesus rescue you from your doubts, and you will be free to enjoy your walk with the Almighty. PEACE

Having complete confidence in the Lord involves waiting upon Him, patiently. The Living Bible tells us in Isaiah 30:15, “For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, says, “Only in returning to me and waiting for me will you be saved; in quietness and confidence is your strength; but you will have none of this”.

In the verse quoted above, like the Israelites, we sometimes refuse to wait upon the Lord and trust confidently in Him. We want to do things in our own way and in our own strength. We must not feel pressured about situations facing us, but trust God completely that He will show up for us. When faced with a question or problem in life, there is nothing wrong with waiting. If we are confident that we are living righteously for the Lord, the best thing to do is wait for the Lord.

Unfortunately for most people, waiting is the most difficult thing to do. Sometimes, we think that God does not move fast enough. We must remember that God is God. He is never late and He is never too early. This is why complete confidence in the Lord is very important. When you trust and believe that the Lord will take care of you, you can gain the patience necessary to wait upon Him.

The Psalmist says in Psalm 27:3, “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident”. King David, the Psalmist, placed his whole confidence in the Lord. He expected the Lord to rescue him from the hands of his enemies. David also expected to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. He knew that God was his only hope, even right from his childhood.

David also says in Psalm 71:6, “From birth, I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you”. He had a good relationship with the Lord and he was after God’s heart. He understood that confidence plus praise is equal to VICTORY. If you believe that the Lord is your confidence, He will keep your foot from being snared. Do not throw away your confidence, no matter what happens because the Lord is with you always.

Child of God, I encourage you to place your complete confidence in the Lord. If you do this, you can never go wrong because the Lord will always look out for you. Always say with confidence that the Lord is your Helper and do not be afraid of anything that mere man can do to you. I pray that God Himself will give you grace to put your confidence in Him alone.

Always remember this powerful scripture from the Word of God. “ Do not trust a neighbour; put no confidence in a friend. Even with her who lies in your embrace, be careful with your words. As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me”.Micah 7: verses 5 & 7.

The Word of God is always true and we should stand on it, without doubting, all the time.

“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight”. Proverbs 3:5-6. You must trust God without reservation and you must not doubt Him in all things.

There is no one more reliable than the Almighty God and His will for your life is perfect. He can never deceive you nor let you down, because He is not a man; He is the Omnipotent God. The scripture quoted above says you should trust Him with all of your heart; not 99.9% of it. The trust should be all or nothing.

The bible says in Proverbs 16:20b, “Blessed is he who trusts in the Lord”. Blessings follow you when you put your complete trust in Jehovah God. Once you depend on Him fully, He will never disappoint you. Man can give you some promises one minute and then disappoint you the next minute. Our God is not like man; He is sovereign and He will not let you fall.

“Trust in Him at all times, O people, pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge”. Psalm 62:8. If you trust in the Lord at all times, there is no way you can go wrong. You will have so much peace and you will have rest in Him. I encourage you to put your trust in the Lord as He cares deeply for those who trust in Him.

“Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord”. Psalm 4:5. God wants you to trust Him fearlessly and requires you to offer your body as a living sacrifice. Your love for Him should cast out any fear and doubt; hence you can trust Him completely. He will keep you from falling as long as you rely on Him. He is the Good Shepherd and He cares for you.

“I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:2. The Lord is a willing and caring confidant you can rely on at all times. He is your Strength, Mighty Rock, Fortress, Stronghold and High Tower. He will never leave you nor forsake you. If you commit whatever you do to the Lord, your plans will succeed always. He has a perfect will for your life and you must depend and count on Him.

When some of us want to board a plane to take us to another location, we put our trust in the pilot, who sits in the cockpit. We do not see him but we still put our trust in him anyway, to take us to our destination. We do not even know if he is fit to pilot the plane at that particular time, but we still trust him and rely on him for our safety. If we have so much trust in a pilot, how much more our Almighty God. Our trust in Him must be greater than the trust we put in a pilot or anyone else.

Child of God, I encourage you to trust in the Lord always, and do good. You will never go wrong and you will enjoy His peace and rest all the time.
