A promise is a pledge or an undertaking to do or not do something. It is an indication of an expectation of something from another person. When a friend or a relative promises you something, they may disappoint you. But when God promises you, He will not disappoint you and will always delivers on time.
Why does God not disappoint us? Because, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor the son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfil?” Numbers 23:19. His Word is forever true and His faithfulness is matchless.
God is never late or too early and His ways are not our ways and vice versa. He, as the Promisor, will always show up to us, the promisees. God’s promises are unfailing and His Word will not return to Him void. It will always accomplish what it was sent to do. There are hundreds of God’s promises in the bible, but I will discuss a few of them here.
When King Solomon had finished building the Temple of the Lord, he recognized the sovereignty of God and he thanked Him for fulfilling His promise to the Israelites. Solomon said, “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel just as He promised. No one word has failed of all the good promises He gave through His servant, Moses.” 1 Kings 8:56. Solomon thanked God for helping him in the building of the Temple.
God has the power to do what He has promised through His Word and you have to be fully persuaded about this. He promises us deliverance in Psalm 34:19-20, “A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.” This is sure deliverance, which the Lord gives us and you need to claim it with His confidence and by faith.
You need to affirm or assert positively His promises for any situation you may be facing. He promises to be with you when you go through the turbulence of life. His Word says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2. So you need not fear; let your heart be encouraged to trust Him completely.
God, who has promised to be with you, is faithful and He will never let you down. Look up to Him for everything and you will not regret it. You will be amazed at His great love and you will give glory to Him. He has also promised you divine protection according to His Word in Psalm 91. “Because he loves me”, says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.” The condition for this promise of protection is to acknowledge God’s name, love Him and live in Him, and He will live in you.
One of the awesome promises of God is receiving answers to your prayers. Jesus tells us in John 14:12-14, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
Child of God, I encourage you to search the scriptures for yourself and claim God’s promises, as appropriate. There is a promise for every area of your life. Claim these promises and give God all the glory.
PRAYER OF SALVATION
If you have not already committed your life to Jesus and you would like to do so now, please pray this prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I am sorry for all the things I have done wrong. Thank you for dying for me on the cross, to set me free from my sins. I ask you to come into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour, and fill me with the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord Jesus. Amen.”
Congratulations, if you have prayed this prayer. Please look for a Bible-believing church, to fellowship with the brethren. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if I can be of any assistance to you. Remain blessed and enjoy the presence of the Lord.
